Instead of becoming an expert in just one field, or one specific niche, I'd much rather explore newer opportunities. This opens up your mind to more ideas and possibilities. You also tend to pick up a lot of skills and contacts while exploring new domains. This helps a lot in the long run, because ultimately your network is your net worth.

I love to take small asymmetric bets, in which I stand to lose very little but gain a lot. I keep this in mind in every single field I try out, and it has completely changed the way I look at opportunities. Having this mindset helps you recognize and assess risk/reward ratios and determine which risks are worth taking.
